MISSION #010401: Badtz Maru Deployed to Baltimore's Inner Harbor in Support of Cidera at ISPCon
DATE: April 4-6, 2001
DESCRIPTION:

Badtz Maru was moved to the Piers in the inner harbor, in support of Cidera (the company that Doug Humphrey was CEO of at the time) and its presence at the ISPcon Internet convention which was being held at the Baltimore Convention Center. Cidera was also hosting a corporate bash at the Maryland Science Center. A cruise was held, in the evening where invited customers and others were onboard the Badtz, and it was taken out of the Harbor and into the bay for a brief run. It was uneventful, no guests were lost, and I think it was the first "after dark" deployment of the Badtz Maru.

Best story - while docked there, many tourists were coming by and trying to board the ship figuring that it was open to the public, so many that we pretty much had to have someone on guard at all to keep people off of the boat. At one point someone walked up and saw Chris Daniel on the rear deck, in his Badtz psuedo-uniform, with his hair down. Chris has nearly waist length blond hair. The tourist commented that with hair like that this couldn't be a US Navy ship, an immediately asked "so are you Canadian Navy?"

Second Best Story - A photographer was shooting pictures of two very scantily-clad models and came up and asked if he could shoot photos on the boat. We of course agreed, and are now anxiously awaiting pictures of these women standing in the engine room with large wrenches in their hands, next to diesel engines that are taller than they are.
