At
times, ships like the Badtz Maru are used to infiltrate military
teams ashore in the dark of night. The Badtz Maru currently
remains equipped in essentially her last military configuration,
in which she performed special operations off the coast of the
British Isles, with the exception that her weapons have been
removed. |

In her special operations (SPECOPS)
role, the crane on her rear deck was used to deploy and recover
smaller (16-22 ft.) boats manned by Royal Marines.
She carried a variety of medium
and heavy caliber (.30 - .50 cal.) machine guns, and a set of 40
mm cannon might be mounted on her rear deck in some cases.
